lipstick: keeping things organized

Rimmel, Revlon, Origins, Korres, Clarins, Victoria’s Secret…

I’d been sticking all of my lipstick in this drawer from a stackable set I got at Target (in a manner not quite but something close to higgledy-piggledy) but at a certain point it was more than a drawer is inherently designed to handle.

One night I got out the scissors and came up with this setup. It’s not the sleekest thing, using chopped up cardboard, but it was free (I am totally cheap about certain things), and it is effective.

Can you tell that I really like the Kate Moss Rimmel collections and the Revlon matte lipsticks? Ditto the Wet 'n Wild semi-mattes.

I’m pretty pleased.

I’ve seen instances of people standing everything up and being able to get at the individual bullets that way, but the drawers would have to be just the right height to avoid wasted space, and it sounds kind of troublesome to keep everything in a grid, not everything is the same height/size, etc. You can get those quite nice looking acrylic grids, but those cost the money.

I briefly considered organizing by color but that’s not how it works in my mind, so I went roughly by brand/price point and consistency. Is this quite dull? I can never tell with this kind of thing. I never tire of seeing how people organize stuff.

playtime: blue lips

OCC lip tar in Butch

OCC lip tar in Butch

It’s cold and snowy here. What could be more fitting than blue lips?

Possibly…blue lips with finely milled glitter atop and a blue-violet gradient?

In black & white you would never know…

I didn't intend to have my face in any of these shots, but then this.

Oh, hello color. Did I scare you? [Probably]

I do like these OCC lip tars. A little laborious to apply, as lip brush definitely required, but good opacity and pigmentation. This particular color is discontinued but there is still a great color range. I have this whole plan to have a true red, an orange, a pink, and a blue, such that I can mix orange, rose, and blue-based reds at will. Comme une artiste.

Too tempting not to fiddle around with exposure and color levels here. I am not quite any of these colors [though neither am I one color, and such things are always a matter of light].

roses are red (sometimes), lipstick is red (sometimes)

http://www.markcolle.com/

I’m not so interested in Valentine’s Day but I am interested in roses and lipstick. And, more and more recently, the color red. And love, and kisses. And let’s see…and chocolate when it is very good and very dark, elegant lingerie, cookies, champagne, gestures of affection, frosting…

Due to the ubiquity of many of my favorite things, ultimately I am pro V-Day.

winter chic: faux fur collar

i

i

I have an extremely warm pimp-style coat for winter, with a broad shearling collar and wrist + hem accents but, for the most part, it hasn’t been cold enough to warrant it. My wool coat serves…does this mean I don’t get to have a massive fur collar?

Happily, it does not.

This one was solidly inexpensive and just what I was looking for. Like the idea of wearing it over a motorcycle jacket, too, but I haven’t found the right one yet.

Added monster pearl drop earrings for a look that is says… Anna Karenina.

Faux fur collar: eBay, pearl dangles: eBay, wool coat: Kenneth Cole, Celtic patterned acrylic scarf: gifted, leggings: Topshop (thrifted), boots: Sorel, legwarmers: who knows, gloves: Bon-Ton, alpaca muff: eBay, on the lips: Korres lip butter glaze in wild rose.
